IS BLUE BEETLE worth THE INVESTMENT?

DC on film has been a rather distinct experience, to state the absolute least. This year alone, fans were spoilt with Zack Snyder’s Justice league as well as James Gunn’s The suicide Squad. next year, we are set to feast on The Batman, Aquaman: The lost Kingdom, The Flash as well as Black Adam, starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. However, one job that has been on everybody’s minds just recently is the upcoming Blue Beetle film on HBO Max. Today, I ask a rather easy question: Is Blue Beetle worth the investment?

Who Is Blue Beetle?

In DC mythology, there have been three Blue Beetles including Dan Garrett, Ted Kord, as well as the film’s lead, Jamie Reyes. The history of the blue Beetle mantle is absolutely fascinating, as well as the stuff that might be a film in itself! According to several sources, the upcoming HBO Max film will mainly focus on Reyes.

While Garrett was originally a Charlton Comics character, Reyes very first appeared in unlimited dilemma #3, before making his debut as Blue Beetle two problems later in unlimited dilemma #5.

Reyes’ origin is not dissimilar to that of Spider-Man. He is a teenager with as well much obligation as well as expectations. When a wonderful scarab discovers its method to his front door, the scarab bonds with Reyes, fusing itself to the teenager’s spine.

Is Blue Beetle worth The Investment?

In recent years, I have not invested in a DC comic or character. I discover Warner Bros as well as DC to be extremely unpredictable, where marvel Comics just is not. DC normally announces fifteen projects, as well as end up only creating two. taking a look at you, new Gods. For this reason, above all else, I have shied away from investing in DC. However, Jamie Reyes is a rather distinct diamond in the rough.

Reyes’ very first two appearances are considerably less expensive than you would expect. Of course, these books are not old by any type of stretch of the imagination. unlimited dilemma hit shelves back in 2006, so there are a great deal of copies of these books out there.

Reyes’ very first actual appearance in unlimited dilemma #3 is a rather affordable one, with a 9.8 grade selling for an all-time high of $140 (USD) this June. That said, if you look at the Jim Lee variant of unlimited dilemma #5, you see a pattern that is really rather exciting.

A 9.8 copy of the routine unlimited dilemma #5 just recently offered for $200 (USD) in July of this year. Whereas a 9.8 grade of the Lee variant of the exact same book really offered for $425 (USD) late last month. There is an enhanced demand for the Lee cover as it really features the cover debut of Reyes as the blue Beetle.

There are tons of copies of this book on eBay at the moment, as well as they are priced well below what you would expect. With the film announced, as well as the titular character cast, there is a rather big part of me that is stating to invest in this book, particularly the Jim Lee variant as you might see rather successful as well as quick returns.

If I were you, I’d keep an eye on this book as I understand I will.

THE DEEP DARK WOODS-“Winter Hours”

My respect for Saskatoon’s Deep Dark woods began when I picked “Hang Me Oh Hang Me” as the 38th best album of 2007. I loved the bands smart mix of traditional bluegrass and Americana, which made it sound classic and traditional all at the same time. Lead singer Ryan Boldt sounds as old as Jerry Garcia, but his voice much stronger. He gives the band it’s gravitas, while lead guitarist Burke Barlow gives it its soul.

The sad and slow “Farewell” is almost a lullaby, and it would be the perfect send-off for the album. If it weren’t the lead track! but if forlorn isn’t your bag, make sure you stick around for the second song, the bouncy “Nancy,” a ditty, punctuated by a fiddle solo, that is almost (gasp!) danceable! other noteworthy tracks here include “As I Roved Out,” another sad number, and “All the money I had is Gone,” which sounds like an old country standard, complete with stellar harmonies and fabulous lyrics. By my favorite cut is the 6-minute “How Can I Try.” I can’t use words to describe it. It takes my breath away. From track to track, the album paints a sepia-toned season of log cabins with snow-topped trees and a warm fire at night.

The Deep Dark woods aren’t for everyone, I recognize that. They’ve toured with some pretty on-the-fringe dudes, The Sadies, Utah Phillips, Magnolia electric Co. and The Stills. but if you give them a listen with open ears and open heart, I bet you’ll find what I did: A band totally in love with music, with the talent to spread their joy. This band is the best of its kind, masters of their genre, and well worth your time and money. On the Black Hen label.

A bit of Comic direct Market history

Milton Griepp, who runs icv2.com, utilized to own funding City Distribution, which was headquartered right here in Madison, Wisconsin. turns out that CCD was developed 40 years back this month, as well as Milton has published a short reminiscence of the company’s history. (KC helped CCD in client service early on for a few years, by the way.)

CCD was one of the biggest comic direct market (selling from publishers to comic stores) distributors, up until DC’s decision to go special with diamond in 1995 ultimately left that other business as the only one standing. (That was revealed the very first year I went to the San Diego Comic Con, as well as at the time, I had no concept what it meant. We’ve all discovered a great deal since then.)

But before that, CCD ran for sixteen years, as you can checked out from Griepp. Be sure to inspect out their one-page monthly order form.

Just like comics are still offered in 2020, we took orders for a month’s worth of comics each time as well as shipped those quantities non-returnable when the books came in. The difference was that in 1980, all of the major titles in shape on one side of an 8-1/2” x 11” piece of paper. We listed Marvel, DC, Warren, as well as Harvey problems by title as well as issue.

Note that it was a great deal easier — as well as cheaper, at 60 cents an problem — to keep up with the whole of the comic market back then. We have a great deal more range in content, format, buying locations, as well as creator diversity now, however there are still lots of people making decisions who keep in mind exactly how things utilized to be… as well as a few of them desire it was that method again. simple is comfortable. Doesn’t need as many decisions to be made.

By the way, it was an open trick in the mid-90s that part of the DC exclusivity offer was that the comic business had the right to buy the distributor. Steve Geppi, owner of Diamond, just recently verified that that is no longer the case.

“We can’t get enough of Pasz’s twisted comedy here,” said Beatty. “This is the third time he will appear in Indie Comics Magazine. When his pages come in we pass them around the office and laugh our heads off.”

Pasz himself suggested he draw a cover, said Beatty. “I suggested we offer it as an alternate, a collectible readers will have to ask for at their comic shop,” Beatty explained. “That way, Pasz can let his imagination run totally free and dealers can still use the regular cover if someone objects!”

The 10 year collection Arsenic Lullaby: The Devil’s decade was recently released in hardcover and softcover, over 400 pages of dark humor and editorial commentary “reviewing all the crap that went on behind the scenes,” wrote Paszkiewicz.

“Arsenic Lullaby is made up of humor that is too twisted for mad magazine. imagine that!” laughed Beatty. “There are a lot of comedy comics trying to be offbeat best now. Pasz’s work is so unexpected, the twists so jarring and witty, he transcends current trends.”

In Indie Comics Magazine, short biographies and contact information are included with done-in-one stories so readers can easily seek out much more of the creators’ work. Merchandise, blog, sketches, the Arsenic Lullaby animated pilot and much more is at ArsenicLullabies.com.
