Catching Up on Leverage

The problem, for me, with great stuff is that I put it off up until I have time to delight in it. (Mediocre stuff, that’s simple to buzz with without having to pay full attention.) Soon, I’m a number of weeks/issues/episodes behind. On the plus side, that implies I can provide myself a mini-marathon. That’s exactly how I discovered myself viewing four episodes of Leverage as well as looking ahead to more.

The Stork Job
A couple is trying to embrace a infant in Serbia, only to be fleeced. I believed this ran the danger of being sappy, particularly when it started triggering crazy thief Parker (Beth Riesgraf)’s orphanage memories, however it soon got terrific, with a con including an overseas low-budget film production. Hardison (Aldis Hodge) does a excellent task of balancing out Parker’s crazy by offering balance as well as sympathy to her in some cases one-note character.

That configuration enabled the team to handle outrageous personalities, with Nate (Timothy Hutton) as the overbearing director, Eliot (Christian Kane) as the bankrolling cowboy, as well as Sophie (Gina Bellman) as actress, of course. It’s the throwaway dialogue bits that I delight in most. When talking about tracking somebody who was a former French fashion model, a number of of the group turn out to be nostalgic Emmanuelle fans. It’s familiar hearing phrases like “that’s when they rebooted the franchise”, although I question when that becamse typical sufficient language to utilize on a TV show.

The wedding event Job

A much more humorous premise this time, as the gang sets themselves up as wedding event planners for a mobster’s daughter’s ceremony in purchase to take money the crook owes a patsy’s family. Parker as well as Hardison once again set up as a pair of FBI agents, which works well, because they’re both capable of stating practically anything with a poker face, as well as they’re both the most truthful as well as direct about their thefts, which makes for tasty contrast.

Hardison has ended up being my preferred character. Later, he as well as tough-guy Eliot are speaking about past heartbreak:

Eliot: “She married somebody else.”
Hardison: “Damn, what did you do?”
Eliot: “What did I do? I liberated Croatia.”
Hardison: “Well, see, now, me, I’d’ve just got fat as well as started up a comic book shop.”

This episode wasn’t as twisty as a few of the others, unfortunately, as well as it succumbs to some apparent jokes — like a ridiculously atrocious bridesmaid gown — however still entertaining. Nicole Sullivan (MadTV) does a great task as the crazy mob wife.

The Mile-High Job
A bit sanctimonious, which is the show’s most significant flaw. They’ve assisted orphans as well as injured war professionals as well as priests already, for goodness’ sake. Here, they have to discover a “smoking gun” file to show an evil business understood their pesticide triggered a bit girl’s death. It’s all just configuration to get them onto a airplane rapidly for a locked-room-style episode in a restricted setting. I don’t mind — I believe restrictions of that kind show the characters off well. “The bank shot Job” was similar, where Nate as well as Sophie were taken hostage in a bank robbery together with their mark.

Then Sara Rue (Popular, The huge Bang Theory) showed up, as a anxious passenger. She’s a extremely skilled comedian, however Hardison, left on the ground, when once again steals the show as a BS-ing administration specialist type. preferred geek moment: Nate’s aliases are all actors who’ve played physician Who.

The Snow Job
It’s one more timely economic villain: a greedy contractor taking advantage of a hard-working guy whose home was foreclosed on. The contractor, played by Sam Anderson, previously dealt with Christian Kane on Angel, by the way, while one of the sons is Danny strong (Jonathan from Buffy). A few as well numerous characters for a smart triple cross; instead, the con’s just about getting the marks to count on them up until necessary.

Upcoming
Tuesday night has “The 12-Step Job”, about a swindled charity (timely!) as well as a broker in rehab. Then, the week after (February 10), comes a nerd-fest: guest stars include star Trekkers Brent Spiner as well as Armin Shimmerman (as well as Lauren Holly), as well as the episode was directed by Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker).

I’m type of amazed I’m still enjoying this series, however for each bum episode, there’s a much better one. I would gladly purchase a DVD set with some juicy extras.

If I’m viewing a lot of TV vigilantes with fantastic powers work outside the legislation to bring justice to those who can’t accomplish it on their own, then no question I don’t feel like reading numerous superhero comics any type of more. This is much more rewarding, as well as even if they don’t have costumes (only disguises), they’re still a excellent experience team with fascinating characters as well as quirks.

G.O.A.T.: stay Fly by three 6 Mafia (2005)

DJ Paul, Lord Infamous, as well as Juicy J are the developed the Triple 6 Mafia in 1991 as well as were grinding for many years before their indie very first album, as well as broadened team roster, debuted in 1995.  Mystic Stylez was part of the whole horrorcore style of rap preferred by outrageous Clown Posse, Geto Boys, some members of Wu Tang as well as a lot of other, lesser-known rappers—it was dark as well as cruel as well as gritty, as well as it has mainly faded away.  In the year 2000, after a lot more lineup modifications as well as a name change, the band landed with Columbia Records as well as scored their very first platinum album: When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1.  This was the warm as much as a lot of understood Unknown, one more platinum plate that featured the very best single of their careers: stay Fly.

Stay Fly was the group’s foray into crunk, as well as their mix of gangsta themes with a mainstream noise led them to score the film Hustle as well as flow (which was the predecessor to the TV show Empire), for which they ended up being the very first rap band to win a grammy (for It’s difficult out right here for a Pimp).  It was likewise the second rap tune to win an Oscar.

Stay Fly likewise featured rap duo 8Ball & MJG as well as young buck as well as G-Unit’s young Buck.  It was originally called “Stay High,” however they altered it so they might get on the radio.  It makes a lot more sense with the original title.

There’s no method you can hear this tune as well as not have it stick in your skull.  Go ahead, try.  I attempt you.
Further listening: The whole a lot of understood unknown album is quite good, however my fave is “Hard Out right here For A Pimp.”

Covers: None.

Atari force Mentions just recently

I’m jealous of Andrew. He has a bound copy of Atari Force. He had it made, of course, since the collection never appeared, as well as those were two separate runs anyway — the solicit was for the mini video game pack-in comics, while Andrew has the later 20-issue run collected.

Anyway, fun publish on memories of the series by Gerry Conway, José Luis García-López, as well as others, in addition to exactly how the binding was done. one of my fondest possessions is a quick sketch Mr. García-López did of Dart, my preferred character from that series. As Andrew says,

it was a truly solid team book with an fascinating cast of characters overseen by an excellent innovative team

As routine visitors know, an Atari force backup is my preferred comic story.

Also, envision my surprise while flipping with the last problem of Shazam!, #14, which came out a couple of weeks ago. In the final wrapup pages, as writer Geoff Johns is summing up some adventures the team had that we weren’t shown, there’s this caption:

In the Gamelands, we assisted the Gamesmaster rescue the Atari Force, which was super cool.

Sure, it’s likely just trademark maintenance, as I can’t see the group of characters I liked meshing well with this, however it was a nice bit mention.
