“Lemire (Essex County) smoothly doles out info while amping up the tension, as well as the innocent, friendly character of TIM-21 produces genuine heart in the midst of extreme violence. Nguyen’s watercolor artwork is marvelous, utilizing the medium’s transparency to produce fluid as well as subtly lustrous pages.” —Publishers regular (starred review)

“The art feels light as well as nearly whimsical. I like that. I likewise like the colors as well as the option to make specific areas (UGC) bright so the panels pop off the page, as well as others (mining colony, Gnish homeworld), much darker, grittier. all of it together appears like watercolors without brushstrokes. Overall, there’s a bit something for everybody right here in Descender.” —Kirkus Reviews

“Gorgeous.” —Vulture/NY Magazine

3 OF the most popular star WARS books IN 2020

While baby Yoda toys might be on everyone’s Christmas wish list, comic book collectors are turning their eyes to these star Wars books. here we look at the market for three star Wars books that have jumped up in popularity over the last year.

KANAN: LAST PADAWAN #1

One of the hottest star Wars books in the current market is Kanan: Last Padawan #1 released in 2015 as a prequel to the animated series star Wars Rebels. due to the timing, it’s important to note that the characters’ first appearances in this book are their first comic book appearances; notably the characters of Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, Chopper (C1-10P), Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, and Garazeb ‘Zeb’ Orrelios. Of particular interest, Sabine Wren has been the subject of much rumoring surrounding the latest reason of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian. The post-Return of the Jedi setting of that show coincides with that of Kanan. It’s likely that the characters from this book will pop up again in future rumors.

As of the writing of this blog, Kanan: Last Padawan #1 has jumped up a whopping 366 spots to #46 on the weekly most popular comic books list. looking at just 2020, everything looks great with its FMV up over 4-5x from the previous, with CGC 9.8 currently holding a value of $220. Unfortunately, when we look at the overall market activity of the book, it paints a more pessimistic picture.

In the 5 years since the book’s release, most of its activity has been concentrated in 2020. It was flat until early 2020 when the book spiked up in price. It peaked in the fall and has been in steady decline ever since. When looking at just its current FMV versus last year’s, it’s easy to say that the book is on its up, but a more detailed look reveals that it is currently trending downwards. Pessimistically, there is still much more room for the book to fall. Optimistically, fingers crossed for a Kanan live-action series? Realistically, take some or a lot of money off the table.

STAR WARS #88

The key significance of star Wars #88 is that it contains the 1st appearance of Lumiya the “Dark lady of the Sith.” Not only has this book been trending up for the year, but it has been doing so since late 2018. The FMV of CGC 9.8 slabs have nearly doubled in that time to a current FMV of $140. This lower value might not be as impressive as the book above (and sales volume. ) However, its longer upward trend certainly is.

If you’re looking for a more affordable Lumiya book, you might want to check out star Wars #56 which contains the first appearance of Shira Brie, the Rebel pilot/Empire spy. At the moment, that book holds a lower FMV of $95 for CGC 9.8.  Lumiya’s star Wars #88 becomes more and more popular. As a result, it’s only a matter of time until Shira Brie’s star Wars #56 also does.

STAR WARS: HEIR TO THE empire #1

The Heir to the empire comic book series was an adaptation of the similarly named novel trilogy. With that, this issue contains the first comic appearance of popular star Wars villain Grand Admiral Thrawn. The overall market behavior of star Wars: Heir to the empire #1 almost perfectly mirrors the market behavior of Kanan: Last Padawan #1. Sales prices were flat since the book’s release until 2020. Then, it experienced the same spike that peaked in fall 2020 (accompanied by the same increase in sales volume). It’s likely that the market for this book is also similarly tied to speculation surrounding the Disney+ series The Mandalorian. The current CGC 9.8 FMV is sitting at $450. It might be even more necessary to exercise precautions with this book.

“But it was so artistically done…” – Grand Admiral Thrawn

BELL X1-“Blue Lights On The Runway”

Can I state I’m overjoyed to be composing about the new Bell X1 album? The band was with a major label for a while, which indicated that to compose about it was to danger being sued, however they’ve considering that settled with Yep Roc, making them blog-friendly, as well as I couldn’t be happier. I’ve been with the band for a number of years now, having listened to “Flock,” their second record however the very first to be released right here in the U.S. of A., over as well as over again.

For those unfamiliar with the band, it’s simplest to compare the Irish lads to their a lot more popular contemporaries, Snow Patrol as well as Coldplay. Bell X1 have a bit bit of a rougher sound–they lack the big studio backing to make their work noise slick as well as glossy, as well as they are the much better for it. Unlike (especially) Coldplay, Bell X1 records noise like they’re being worked out in the studio. They have an organic, authentic feeling to them that makes them transcend simple listening or wallpaper. however it’s still difficult to compose about private tracks since the tunes flow together to produce a lot more of a mood than a collection of singles. particularly on this newer release. Previous Bell X1 albums did undoubtedly try to cull a few radio-friendly, catchy-riff songs, however they seem material right here to clear up into what they are finest at: producing sonic poems, sung in simple tones with the type of gentle music that encourages the mind to roam around the frequently provocative lyrics about “hearty dogs of chuch as well as state” as well as the “God of eagle, God of light, push[ing] us to the corner of our own life.” (Lyrics taken from “Blow Ins.”) The music may be mellow, however the words have a lot more in typical with U2.

Even the titles of Bell X1 tunes are touching as well as intimate: “Light catches Your Face,” “How Your Heart Is Wired,” “One String Harp” . . . The two a lot of single-like tunes, “The fantastic Defector” as well as “A much better Band” are a few of the best, a lot of hook-y tunes the band has ever created. Blue Lights on the runway seems to represent the band’s attempt to make the album it’s always to make. It seems unconcerned with polish as well as accessibility, and, as such is a true work of art. It’s their biggest work so far, in the occupation of a band that’s already done some quite fantastic work.

Unless 2009 supplies a significantly much better crop of records than the 10 years that have preceded it, there’s bit question that this will be one of the very best records of the year.

Buy it!

1 YEAR UPDATE: amazing SPIDER-MAN #135

This blog will look from a reader’s perspective at a past blog and if the author was appropriate with their advice. I want our readers to know I have the benefit of time on my side in this review. No reviewer can be ideal all the time. Readers, for your home entertainment tonight we are reviewing…. Norman Robinson III’s After-Action Report: amazing Spider-Man #135.

The  Professor

Colleges across the country are getting ready to end their school year.  final Exams have ended.  This is the time when numerous professors are rated by their peers and students.  here at GoCollect, I am ready to do the same.  I will review one of the longest-tenured “professors” here at GoCollect.  He is the illustrious Norman Robinson III, doctor of Comic Books.

Second appearance Theory

Issues Presented:
The Norman Robinson III paper that will be up for review is After-Action Report: amazing Spider-Man #135.  professor Robinson III produces a paper with his theory that the popularity of the Punisher ought to put amazing Spider-Man #135 on the radar for speculators and investors over the long haul.  He justifies this with sales data that demonstrates a better return on investment than the first appearance of the Punisher in amazing Spider-Man #129 over practically all grades.

Professor Robinson’s theory was that this is because the less expensive prices allow for a larger pool of buyers.  much more buyers translates to greater room for growth over the long haul for that book.  The low price point allows for additional people to purchase the book.  This increase in the numbers of sales can be attributed to the low sales price and the gains the book is experiencing because of obvious demand for the issue. This is similar to a minor case of F.O.M.O. Upon evaluating the data offered it is hard to not agree with the professor.

Analysis:
Investors and speculators have long sought out second appearances of characters.  the most justifiable reason for this behavior is that the first appearance has been priced beyond the implies of many collectors and/or investors.  The professor indicated that the price point is such that there are much more people that can afford the second appearance than the first, and thus the reason for the better-looking trends.

New data Numbers

Data
Let us now identify if Mr. Robinson was appropriate in his theory.  The start date of this assessment begins on June 5, 2020.  That date chosen was because it was one day after the short article was published.  The end date was may 18, 2021.  This was roughly 11 months after the short article was published.  I will exclude the 9.9 grades because no sales have occurred because publication.  thus we have the data:

Grade
Trend
Last Sale
Notes

Amazing Spider-Man #135
9.8
-4.4%
$3,400 (eBay 3/1/21)
Only 2 sales in this grade (down because article)

9.2
+39%
$720 (Heritage 5/10/21)
12/20-2/21 Sales roughly around $350

6.5
+9.9%
$140 (eBay 2/8/21)
Best offer accepted that decreased price

Conclusion on issues Presented
The 9.8 grade dropped in price, but there were only 2 sales in that grade with a net increase of 3 copies in the CGC census. The 9.2 grades had a broad range of prices, with many selling for around $350 until the last sale.  In conclusion, the book saw positive trends. That means, in general, it was solid guidance from Prof. Robinson.

Alternate Theories

In evaluating this theory, I then compared them to two competing theories utilized by comic book investors.  The first is the “Lower grade Theory”.  This is followed by the “First issue Theory”.  Both of these alternatives are used by investors when they have limited resources and should identify the best course adjustment from the information offered in articles.  In summation, investors and collectors will read of the significance of the first appearance of a character recommended and the alternative suggested in the article.  readers will then decide how to respond to the data offered for themselves.

We will assess purchasing using the previously-mentioned alternative investment strategies.  These consist of purchasing either the first appearance of the Punisher in a lower grade or the first issues of his self-titled book using some of the data presented by Prof. Robinson.  It is his neighborhood, and we should not deviate from that place by using different data. Our goal is to see if the second appearance theory recommendation is still the best option for investors.

Alternative #1: lower Grade
In this analysis, we are still going to focus on the first appearance of the Punisher in amazing Spider-Man #129.  The budget limit we are going to utilize is $3,800.  This is the sale price of the amazing Spider-Man 9.8 that returned a 99% return in the time frame discussed in the first paper.  Remember, the last sale on eBay was $3,400.  You could have purchased a good 8.5 copy of amazing Spider-Man #129 on eBay for $3,199 and saw a good upwarnullnull

Love and Capes: wake up Where You Are

The third love and Capes collection reprints the five-issue ever After miniseries and the 2010 free Comic book Day issue (aka #13), but that’s not the important thing. What’s important is that, in wake up Where You Are, Abby and mark are now married. This book covers them starting their life together — after a world-spanning Hawaiian honeymoon.

You see, mark is the Crusader, a superhero, and Abby knows his secret — and enjoys some of the perks, like having him take packages to France to avoid high postage fees. but now they’re facing new challenges with their family and friends.

Abby’s got to settle back into working her bookstore, ably managed by her sister Charlotte during her time away, although she couldn’t prevent the landlord raising the rent. mark and Abby need to find a home together while Mark’s coping with finding out that his best friend, Darkblade, is dating his ex-girlfriend Amazonia. then there are the little things, like figuring out how a superhero handles wearing a wedding ring or having dinner at Darkblade’s mansion.

Sometimes, it’s all about the quiet moment helping out your friends with relationship advice. Sometimes, it’s the comic-style plot, whether happy — a superhero gets regressed to the physical age of seven — or sad — the death of a teammate. Sometimes, it’s the family stuff (the “situation comedy” aspects) with the spouse’s parents coming to visit or the high school reunion. The blend is addictive, and author Thom Zahler does an excellent job switching them up and balancing the elements.

The art style is exaggerated, with Mark’s square head (cause he’s a traditional good guy, although not stuffy or boring) and Abby’s huge, expressive eyes, which makes it very readable. The eight-panel-per-page structure makes for two punchlines on each page, which keeps events moving quickly and puts emphasis on the entertaining moments.

I don’t know how to tell you how great this book is. I love this comic. It’s funny and touching and creative and meaningful. I want to spend more time with these characters and share their ups and downs and discoveries. I love the jokes that indicate that Zahler’s really thought about the details of the daily life of superheroing, but I love even more that the comic is really about how two people care for each other and build a life together. Still, the line about the army Corps of Engineers had me laughing out loud and trying to tell KC what the joke was.

Love and Capes: wake up Where You Are can be ordered from your local comic shop with the code JUL11 0386. It’s due out in September. I suggest sharing it with your loved ones.

BURIED desire by PC WORSHIP

Hardcore electronica?  Heavy drone?  Psychedelic futuristic rock?  Not sure what to phone call this, however it’s truly good.

It’s not like PC Worship are the very first people to dredge as well as slog with muscular riffs, heavy drums as well as vocals that moan just beneath the fuzz, however something about buried desire seems extremely different from all the other guys. as well as in some cases the comments as well as random guitar notes may get a bit overwhelming, however that’s just the immersion this album demands from you. inspect out the short as well as deceptively complex “Tranq.” Seriously. If you just stream one song, stream that one. It’s an instrumental that seems like something off Neil Young’s Weld album, except that it seems to be building, building, building as well as then…It just burns out as well as fades away.

I’ve had much more fun listening to this album than numerous that came out so far this year.
