TNT drama Tweets, then Deletes Praise For Henry Cavill As Superman (And fans Noticed)

just like whatever associated to the Zack Snyder-led DC prolonged world of movies Superman as depicted by Henry Cavill seems to be controversial. A hashtag in support of the actor’s turn in the iconic blue tights trended on Twitter this weekend, after TNT drama sent a tweet that got a great deal of response. The reaction, however, seems to have ruffled some feathers as well as the tweet is now gone from their timeline. Yet, it was up long sufficient for fans of the Henry Cavill version of Superman to get the topic trending on the social network platform. almost all of the tweets in the top results extoll the virtue of the latest handle the characters. Yet, not everybody was pleased.

Some fans didn’t such as this version of the character, since he was not as much of a boy scout as he’d been in the past. instead of being greeted with open arms by his embraced country, America reacted to Superman with fear as well as anger. (As did Ben Affleck’s Batman!) Still, the tweet was sufficient for fans to demand Henry Cavill return as Superman in DC films. worth noting, this wasn’t the only tweet about this Superman as well as his black suit.

Since Comic-Con in 2019, we understand that Henry Cavill is thinking about playing Superman again. In fact, reports broke in may that he was in negotiations to return to the function however in a supporting function in other heroes’ films. Yet, in July, (when he last spoke about it) he seemed to reject the rumor that any type of active negotiations were happening. Yet, with Michael Keaton back as Batman as well as the exploration of the multiverse, it seems like actually anything is possible.

Currently, Henry Cavill is wrapped up in shooting season 2 of The Witcher.

What do you think? Do you want Henry Cavill to return as Superman? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

UPDATE: A practical visitor informed us that the hashtag was really started, like almost whatever with the DCEU, by fans.

Wayne Markley

by Wayne Markley

I love westerns and I have no idea why. I can spend an entire day watching TV westerns from the ‘50s and ‘60s, and to be honest, very few of them are good. They are all very formulaic. Yet I still watch them for hours on end. I have the same issue with comics, but fortunately (?) there are far fewer western comics than there are TV westerns. and on the other hand, the comic book westerns are excellent, at least the ones I am going to discuss here. There are two new graphic albums that came out recently I really enjoyed even though one is based (a sequel really) on a movie and the other is a reprint of a comics from the1970s. Plus, I have thrown in a couple of recommendations of books you may have to make an effort to find.

Rawhide kid #26

In the 1950s there were all sorts of western comics. DC had a number of titles including All star Western and All American Western. I would love to see DC reprint these books as they are filled with great art by Alex Toth, Gil Kane, Carmine Infantino and many others. marvel had the Rawhide kid (with lots of Kirby art in the early issues) as well as Two-Gun kid and, in the ‘70s, the Mighty marvel Western. There also all sorts of books from other publishers, most notably The Ghost Rider from magazine Enterprises. This was the western Ghost Rider, long before Johnny Blaze got a flaming skull and rode a motorcycle. plus there were tons of comics based on TV Cowboys, such as Roy Rogers, Tom Mix, Annie Oakley, Dale Evans, Jimmy Wakely, etc. Again, these were published by a number of different publishers, (Mainly DC) and featured art by Alex Toth and John Buscema among many others. By the early ‘70s, there were not many left. DC had All star Western (a revival of the ‘50s title) which introduced Jonah Hex, one of my all time favorite comics, and marvel still had their two western reprint anthologies and a few ongoing titles. over the years there have been a variety of westers comics, some revivals like the interesting Joe Lansdale/Tim Truman Jonah Hex series, Alejandro Jordorwsky’s Bouncer (which is excellent), and Marvel’s revamped Rawhide Kid-Slap leather that came out in 2010, and was better un-revived.

The Sons of El Topo Vol. 1: Cain

Speaking of Alejandro Jordorwsky, who happens to be one of my favorite writers, he just had the first volume of his graphic novel series, The Sons of El Topo Vol. 1: Cain come out from BOOM! Studios. This is a full color hardcover book which is a sequel to his 1970 film called El Topo. This story was originally written as a sequel to this cult classic which is sort of a magical surreal western (it has to be seen as no description would do it justice), but for some reason no one wanted to finance the sequel, so Jordorwsky made it into a graphic novel instead. He got the remarkable Jose Landronn to draw it. This first volume is mostly set up as it introduces and explains who El Topo’s two sons are and their life stories. As the title suggests, the story revolves around two brothers, one who is attempting to kill the other, and from there the story just gets weird. If you are a fan of the film or of Alejandro Jordorwsky’s work in general, then you will love this book. If you like beautiful art, then this book is for you. If you are looking for something different from the traditional superhero fare, then this is it! If you just like non-traditional westerns, then you will love this. (I would highly recommend this book for fans of Joe Lansdale & Timothy Truman’s Jonah Hex: shadows West trade collection).

El Mestizo

Then we have El Mestizo by writer Alan Hebden and drawn by the late, but great, Carlos Ezquerra. This was a western strip that appeared in the pages of battle magazine in England in the late 1970s. This story was so different than the typical fare in battle (war stories) that this strip did not last that long, so Rebellion was able to collect the entire run into one very nice hardcover. The story is set in 1862. El Mestizo is a former slave from Alabama who escapes and flees to Mexico during the American Civil War. While in Mexico, he sharpens his mercenary skills until he is famed gunsmith. He returns to the united states with a strong sense of right and wrong. From there he finds himself work for both the South and the North, with neither side realizing it, as he is really just fighting for what he thinks is right. He is armed with his guns and his bolo. as with most British comics, these stories run 3-4 pages long, which is to the benefit of this strip as if forces the action (and there is a lot, almost every panel) and the story to move at a breakneck pace. I really enjoyed this story and I thought it took enough twists and turns with El Mestizo’s constant double dealings that it is a real page turner. As always, Ezquerra’s art is beautiful and Hebdon’s stories were a pleasant surprise. This is by far the most traditional western in this blog, along with the early Jonah Hex run, and it is a rip roaring fun story that I am sure beau Smith would enjoy, being the western buff he is. Well worth going out of your way to read. My only regret is the story didn’t go on longer as it seemed as if there were many more stories that could have been told.

Jonah Hex: shadows West TPB

Jonah Hex had a long and prosperous run starting in 1972. He first appeared in All star Western #10 by John Albano and Tony DeZuniga. The title was changed to weird Western Tales with issue #12 and Jonah was the lead feature through issue #37. Jonah’s most famous writer started with issue #22 and his name was Michael Fleisher. Fleisher would write Jonah for the rest of his run in weird Western Tales and through his own titles run of 92 issues and the ten issues of a series called Hex where he lands up in the future. To me, the All star Western/Weird Western and Jonah Hex runs are the pinnacle of western comics. Unlike the comics of the ‘50s, these were tales of drama and violence. Jonah was a bounty hunter and as his back story was slowly revealed, he became more and more human. He is never a traditional hero, and he is very much in the vein of the classic spaghetti Western heroes, namely Clint Eastwood in the film The man with no Name; a killer with his own moral code. Jonah Hex was easily the most violent book DC published at the time, and perhaps ever, and I would argue it was only rivaled by Fleisher’s other tour de force of violence, the Spectre in the pages of adventure Comics. There was also a Jonah Hex Spectacular that came out in 1978 which to me is one of the greatest comic stories ever told by Michael Fleisher and Russ Heath telling the tale of how Jonah Hex died, and his legacy. These stories all told are an epic collection that deserves to be collected in a deluxe format. (Not that I am holding my breath for this to ever happen). Jonah also appeared in a series of miniseries by Joe Lansdale and Tim Truman and was most recently revived in a series written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin gray which ran 70 issues and was drawn by a variety of people and was quite good. It was replaced by a revival of All star Western that ran another 34 issues. While these were also good, I hated the direction the series landed up going in and I felt it was totally disrespectful to who the character was and undid so much of his history. There was also an original graphic novel by Tony DeZungia, Jonah Hex’s co-creator. almost all of the newer material and the Lansdale stories have been collected into trades. very little of the Fleisher material has been collected outside of two volumes of showcase which reprinted all of the original run of Jonah Hex from All-Star Western/Weird Western (1972 version) and the first 22 issues of his own book, Jonah Hex. Sadly, almost all, if not all, of these books are out of print.

Louis L’Amour’s law of the Desert Born

Louis L’Amour’s law of the Desert born graphic novel is adapted by Charles Santino and beautifully drawn by Thomas Yeates. This is a classic L’Amour story filled with vivid characters and non-stop excitement and is set in the wild west of new Mexico in 1887. I mention this book because it is such a beautiful book that slipped by most comic fans. It is available still from book sellers but no longer from comic stores. It is well worth going out of your way to find it. It is a 160 page hardcover that originally came out in 2013.

That wraps it up for this blog. Do any of you still read and enjoy western comics? Or western TV shows for the matter? have you read any of the books I have written about here today? If you have I would again like to hear your thoughts. I can be reached at Wayne Markley on Facebook or at MFBWAY@AOL.COM. all of this babbling has been my personal thoughts and opinions and do not reflect the opinions of Westfield Comics or their employees. So, as always…

Thank you.

New Superman series kid of Kal-El and the Authority will Take the Kryptonian family closer to Futue state

DC Comics announced several new Superman series, including Superman: kid of Kal-El, Superman and the Authority, and Supergirl: woman of Tomorrow. along with the continuing action Comics, which is going in a new direction, Clark Kent’s corner of the DC looks like it will have a bit of an overhaul. maybe we can call this Dawn of S? So, What do we have to look forward to?

Superman: kid of Kal-El Is the new center of the various Superman Series

I love the throwback cover. (Image: Superman: kid of Kal-El #1, DC Comics)

In DC Future state Week One, Superman put Metropolis in a jar. That Superman? Jonathan Kent, kid of Clark Kent – also known as Kal-El – the star of the new series. In fact, the world Tom Taylor and the other Superman writers are building brings us dangerously close to Future State. In limitless horizon #0, the Spectre alerted Diana that Jonathan need to never become Superman. Well, it’s happening. As DC Comics describes in their announcement:

Jonathan Kent has experienced a lot in his young life. He’s fought evil with Robin (Damian Wayne), traveled across galaxies with his Kryptonian grandfather, and lived in the future with the legion of Super-Heroes, who were intent on training him for the day his daddy could no longer be Superman. There is a hole in the Legion’s history that prevents Jon from knowing exactly when that will happen, but all signs point to it being very soon. It’s time for the kid to wear the cape of his daddy and continue the never-ending battle as a symbol of hope for his home planet.

This new series is the beginning of the rise and fall and rise again of Jonathan Kent, kid of Superman, regardless of which name you choose.

Supergirl might Not Be the kid of Superman, but She’s the star of a new series Too

next stop: ongoing series. (Image: Supergirl: woman of Tomorrow #2, DC Comics)

First of all, some fightin’ words. Kara Zor-El is the best Super-pronoun, man, boy, girl, woman, nonbinary, transgender, etc. She is the best. and though she’s not getting a new series as big as Superman: kid of Kal El, she is getting the “all-star” treatment. That’s how writer Tom King describes Supergirl: woman of Tomorrow. Also, the new series stars Krypto, pet dog of Superman, so who needs the kid anyway. check out the description:

Supergirl, Krypto, and their new pal Ruthye find themselves stranded with no way to pursue Krem, the murderous kingsagent. Each moment this fugitive roams free, the a lot more beings come dangerously close to dying by his hand. There is no time to lose, so our heroes need to now travel across the universe the old-fashioned way…by cosmic bus! little do they know their journey will be a dark one, filled with terrors that not even the housemaid of might is prepared to face!

Action Comics #1033 Brings a lot more crisis (No, Not that kind of Crisis) and a lot more Pages

Papa Kal looks angry. Did someone steal his Werther’s Originals? (Image: action Comics #1033, DC Comics)

The one corner of the Superman world not getting a new series? The forever-running action Comics. If you’re not too thrilled about the kid of Kal-El or don’t want to bother with a new series, action Comics still stars the tried and true Superman. However, we have even a lot more ties to Future State. So, if you took pleasure in Superman: Worlds of War, this is where you want to go next. Per DC’s announcement:

Writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson and artist Daniel Sampere keep Superman on the front lines in his battle to aid a group of Warworld refugees in action Comics #1033, on sale Tuesday, July 27. This issue takes the action to Atlantis and the Fortress of Solitude, where Warworld refugees have taken possession of hazardous Warworld tech, bringing it to Aquaman’s undersea kingdom and risking an all-out war that even Superman may not be able to prevent. Meanwhile, some of the escaped Warworld prisoners have found the Fortress of Solitude…and along with it, Lois Lane!

Oh, but that’s not all! one of the other terrific parts of Worlds of War? The Midnighter/Mister miracle backup stories. So, of course, those are back!

And in this 40-page blockbuster’s second feature, Midnighter has gone deep into the Trojan compound and found a very unexpected guest whose path he crossed in Future State—none other than Shilo Norman, a.k.a. Mister Miracle!

Okay, now, the icing, sprinkles, and gooey center. The announcement that makes the new Superman series, kid or girl or Papa, look amateur…

Grant Morrison Is Returning for the new limited series Superman and the Authority

Coming soon: Tom cruise in Authority Report. (Image: Superman and the Authority #1, DC Comics)

You read that correctly. grant Morrison, author of All-Star Superman and the New52 action Comics.  Also, the designer of The Authority. The series didn’t do well when it came out but is terrific in trade. They’re bringing the two words together for the new limited series, Superman and the Authority, no kid needed.  Because, when it pertains to Warworld, there’s a lot more happening than even Superman can handle:

If Superman is to get to the bottom of what’s happening on Warworld, he’s going to need help, the kind of help that doesn’t yell “Justice League.”

…this new team will be led by Manchester Black, and combine original members Midnighter and Apollo with new members Enchantress and Natasha Irons, as well as new versions of Lightray and O.M.A.C. This new team will have to learn to work together, and fast, as the Ultra-Humanite has formed his own team of villains to take out the man of Steel.

So, which new series are you looking forward to most; Superman: kid of Kal-El, Supergirl: woman of Tomorrow, action Comics, or Superman and the Authority most? Actually, maybe I must ask, “Besides Superman and grant Morrison, which series are you looking forward to the most?”

But right here they seem to have produced something which provides a new meaning to a mad-genius. somebody who has a follow-up contingency plan to his contingency plan. somebody who has all the knowledge, skills, powers as well as stealth of Batman. as well as likewise has the no holds barred unpredictability of Joker.

Batman who Laughs might be one of the very best works in DC after a long time. Let’s dive deeper as well as see exactly how it unfolds.

HAPPIEST MEMORIES

From the very first line of the Batman who Laughs states “What is your happiest memory?” As a reader, you are required to believe about the happiest moment of your life. It is a flashback of Bruce’s youth as well as most likely his happiest moment. A unusual moment in the comic where you feel joyous as well as free as Bruce plays with his parents as well as Alfred. This opening is heartwarming however likewise unfortunate as well as heartbreaking since we understand what complied with these happy moments.

And this joy soon modifications to a high-speed chase, which turns extremely dark as well as sinister when Bruce discovers out the identity of the body smuggled by the grave-robbers. Both Alfred as well as Batman are shocked to discover that the body in the truck belongs to Bruce. later we discover out that this dead Bruce seems to have made different options at some point in his life.

Batman soon realizes that details of the body are designed to hurt him psychologically. It likewise adds a foreboding sense of dread since even before the Batman who Laughs enters the pages of the comic book, we have already established exactly how twisted he is.

THE BATMAN action BEGINS

The genuine act of this problem begins in the second half when a previously unknown as well as unseen evil Batman called the Grim Knight unleashes an assault on Arkham Asylum. when he starts gunning down Arkham’s staff, we recognize that this is a vicious character with some extremely horrible intentions. heavily armored, he breaks into the Asylum as well as soon torches Mister Freeze as well as seemingly kills Joker. That joker though is a decoy. The genuine one obviously conscious of the imminent catastrophe escaped a long time ago. We likewise get to checked out why Batman refuses to kill the Joker.

A few frames later the Joker returns as well as pulls off one more technique to bring a twisted prophecy into reality. The beauty of this specific comic is that even without completely introducing the villain, Snyder has put into movement a series of event which might have disastrous consequences. step by step this comic explores Batman’s inner demons as well as fears while still including a peaceful moment of introspection.

A visual TREAT

Even though the Batman who Laughs primarily works behind the scenes, when he does show up, he looks menacing as well as terrifying. contributing to the jarring feeling of reading this comic is the visual produced by Jock. As the action moves along in this comic, the drawing makes it really unnerving, particularly when you pause to believe about the mental element of it.

GOING FORWARD

Back to Snyder’s writing, frequently it feels like one is reading poetry. The wise as well as detective Batman is likewise a positive change, where he utilizes a disguise while he investigates the body. The banter between Alfred as well as Bruce is so refreshing since the rest of the comic is dark as well as moody. Going ahead my only hope is that the innovative team behind Batman who Laughs keeps the eerie tone going instead of considerable action. This is the type of stuff which makes you wait on the next edition as well as is gripping as well as intense.

In the end, I believe this story has a huge heart, great deals of action, its mental horror with a few drops of physical violence. It introduces a fairly less explored side of Batman. This is suggested for anyone who likes both mental as well as physical horror, for anyone who likes to navigate thedark alleys of the human mind. particularly if you desire to get into somebody else’s shoes as well as want to experience what they are feeling, then get BATMAN who LAUGHS #1.

In Roxane Gay’s The Sacrifice of Darkness, She as well as an impressive innovative team provide us a lovely like story about Light, Darkness, as well as Biscuits

For our October indie graphic book selections, we named Roxane Gay’s The Sacrifice of Darkness, with co-writer Tracy Lynne Oliver, as well as artists Rebecca Kirby as well as James Fenner. From the moment the original cover debuted, this OGN was undoubtedly going to be something special. as well as not just since it was a Roxane Gay story. Rebecca Kirby’s art as well as James Fenner’s colors already told a story of light as well as darkness as well as isolation. The rest of the book? Magnificent. The Sacrifice of Darkness is one of the most dazzling literary experiences so far this century.

The Interwoven like stories in Roxane Gay’s The Sacrifice of Darkness Reminds us That There is appeal in Dark Times

We’ll get to the biscuits soon. (Image: The Sacrifice of Darkness, Archaia/Boom Studios)

We comply with two couples throughout Roxane Gay’s The Sacrifice of Darkness: Hiram Hightower as well as Mara Blessings in flashbacks, as well as then their son, Joshua, as well as his youth good friend Claire in the present. Hiram as well as Mara’s story is one of catastrophe waiting to happen. Joshua as well as Claire’s is just the opposite: a story of hope.

At the begin of the story, Hiram, suffering a anxiety we don’t rather comprehend yet, gets into an “air machine” powered by a newly-discovered aspect as well as flies it directly into the sun—effectively killing it. All that’s left is an ever-shrinking red scar in the sky as well as utter darkness. as well as the town takes their rage out on Joshua as well as Mara, calling them “son” as well as “wife” of “a sun killer.” When we begin seeing exactly how Hiram as well as Mara autumn in love, it’s painful—we understand exactly how this ends. We understand that Hiram’s like for mining turns to hate. In fact, the a lot more lovely their story is, the a lot more it hurts to see it.

However, though Hiram as well as Mara’s story starts in an age of light, Joshua as well as Claire’s begin in an age of darkness. Yet, since we don’t understand their ending, there’s a mix of hope as well as concern for them. however mainly hope. It’s in the method Claire befriends Joshua—a youngster outcasted for no fault of his own. Seeing this young woman defy her peers to befriend “the kid of a sun killer” brings that hope.

Both like stories in Roxane Gay’s The Sacrifice of Darkness are linked By One powerful Element: Biscuits

We get a look of the story’s genuine hero in the top ideal corner panel: biscuits, as well as their sidekick, jam. (Image: The Sacrifice of Darkness, Archaia/Boom Studios)

Light as well as dark. hope as well as tragedy. empathy as well as being outcasted. These are truly heavy themes, as well as the weight of them is ever-present throughout the graphic novel. however there’s one more reoccurring symbol: biscuits. Specifically, the biscuits that Mara bakes. never underestimate the power that a well-baked biscuit (or any type of food) plays in getting people to autumn in love. Why do you believe we normally go to dinner on dates? Food is the method we link with each other. In the early days of both stories, we see them sharing these obviously divine biscuits.

But as adorable as the biscuit-sharing is, these scenes add levity to the story, keeping it from ending up being an outright depressing story. The Sacrifice of Darkness is actually a story about darkness. as well as it gets dark. Harrowingly dark. as well as yet, while we enjoy the Hightower household experience since of Hiram’s actions, as well as as the world grow progressively darker, there’s this innocent baked great bringing happiness to two generations of a family. That’s a lot more than cute. These biscuits? They’re beautiful.

(I was type of hoping Roxane Gay as well as Tracy Lynne Oliver, her co-writer, would include a recipe at the end. I requirement some wonderful biscuits in my like life).

Rebecca Kirby as well as James Fenner’s Art Turns a excellent story into a Masterpiece

as well as just a minor dash of Middle-Earth. (Image: The Sacrifice of Darkness, Archaia/Boom Studios)

As a writer with the creative skills of a blind armadillo, I normally try not to either praise or criticize art as well much in my reviews, unless it truly stands out. This art truly sticks out for all the ideal reasons. Without bombarding us, Rebecca Kirby skillfully as well as subtly portrays these characters’ emotions’ depth as well as weight. Kirby shows the difference between anguish, anger, despair, as well as concern with only minor modifications to her pencils. as well as the exact same goes for love, wonder, joy, as well as hope.

Her landscapes as well as backgrounds, however, are brilliant as well as completely realized. This is a completely realized world in both composing as well as art. however it’s not just Kirby’s pencils that producethis world—James Fenner’s colors are vital to Roxane Gay’s The Sacrifice of Darkness. Every page appears like they’re in the middle of a sunrise or sunset. Fenner’s colors commonly catch that wonderful time of day professional photographers like so much called the golden hour, at sunset. as well as sometimes, the pages have the brightness of the morning’s very first light.

The art is deeply impacting without trying to be. The last time I’ve felt this impacted by the art in a graphic book was Nate Powell’s in John Lewis’s March trilogy. As much as I like comics, I normally reread stories for the writing. however considering that I checked out Roxane Gay’s The Sacrifice of Darkness about 24 hours ago, I need to have flipped with the book to take in the art once again a lots times.

All comics as well as graphic novels are team efforts, so while a lot of reviews, such as this one, as well as writeups will refer to the book as Roxane Gay’s The Sacrifice of Darkness, don’t fail to remember that there are three other creators, as well as all four are similarly talented. Here’s a quick lesson about why this happens. One, it’s easier. In comics, writers’ names are always provided first, as well as so they’re referred to first. It’s likewise exactly how citation works. We utilize the very first designer mentioned. Plus, my editor would kill me if I kept composing “Roxane Gay, Tracy Lynne Oliver, Rebecca Kirby, as well as James Fenner’s The Sacrifice of Darkness” every single time. just understand this: The Sacrifice of Darkness is incredible, as well as if you take out any type of of these four skilled individuals, it may still be great or even great, however it wouldn’t be this special.

Want to checked out the original short story, “We are the Sacrifice of Darkness”? It’s difficult to find, however you can buy the American short Fiction issue, #55, at their site.

A KC COLUMN by KC Carlson

Out in mid-June is a new paperback titled Avengers: four that collects the recent five-issue limited series by writer mark Waid, penciller Barry Kitson, and inker mark Farmer (with a lot of last-minute art help). The title is very appropriate, given the subject matter of the collection is a modern retelling of the origin of the “Cap’s Kooky Quartet” early era that began in Avengers #16 (originally 1965). Iron Man, Thor, Giant-Man, and the Wasp all left the team simultaneously, leaving Captain America as the sole surviving Avenger. Cap quickly recruited three absolute rookies: Hawkeye, then a supporting villain in the Iron man series, and Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, recently seen as supporting characters recruited (and ultimately dismissed) by Magneto for his initial Brotherhood of Evil Mutants team, beginning in (Uncanny) X-Men #4.

Avengers: Four

The Avengers: four retelling of this era of Avengers history adds a ton of details and much-needed characterization beyond what we originally knew about this era of early Marvel. (It’s the kind of thing that Waid specializes in, if somehow you are not familiar with his comics work.) It also introduces a new character in this never-before-told (until now) story. Without giving too much away, it looks like this person is planned to be a major character in The Avengers in the near future, possibly not in a role you might suspect.

FEARLESS FRONT-FACER

Avengers #3.1

This is a super-fun read, no matter how much marvel history you know (or don’t know), especially if you love watching Cap trying to get a handle on things he doesn’t yet understand. (Because Cap is also very new to the Avengers, having just been thawed out of that iceberg he’s been in since the final days of world war II.) Hawkeye’s ego and arrogance is out-of-control, and Pietro (Quicksilver) is not far behind — as well as being the most over-protective brother in the marvel Universe. The Scarlet Witch is a revelation here. traditionally written by Stan Lee as the biggest wet blanket and sob sister in the marvel Universe, Waid (ably partnered by Kitson, with his depiction of Wanda’s body language) made Scarlet Witch a better character without fundamentally changing her history or personality. Which is one of the neatest tricks in the series, and another thing to pay specific attention to, for those who love pure character.

Avengers: four is also filled with supporting heroes and villains, starting with the original departing Avengers (mentioned above), Jarvis (the Avengers “butler”), the always frightening Frightful four (The Wizard, Medusa, Sandman, and Trapster, most of whom were destined for bigger marvel universe roles in years to come — sorry about that, Paste-Pot Pete!), the Stranger, the mad Thinker (and his android), Daredevil, Spider-Man, the Enforcers, the Acrobat, and even a giant monster or two…

Avengers #4.1

Plus, much care has been taken to make the interior of the books (especially the non-story pages) look like the classic ‘60s marvel lettercols (right down to the coupon to get the Merry marvel Marching society membership kit) and house ads for vintage comics, including the legendary marvel 60s T-shirts. best news of all — the last issue’s (modern) lettercol hints at possibly more retro-fun to come!

I can’t wait! (Or maybe I already have! this time displacement stuff really messes up my equilibrium!)

‘NUFF SAID!

The Avengers: four collection hits stores (and comic subscription services) in June! might be one of the best reads of the year! Don’t miss it!

DC hopes for a series of Spin-Off films for Villains in Reeves’ The Batman

Christmas Day is very crucial this year. Not just because of the holiday, but because it will be when we are just 18 months away from the release date of the next film starring the Caped Crusader. As Warner Bros. readies for the third reboot of this character in the past 15 years, they still hope to spawn a universe. A new report suggests that DC hopes that the lots of villains in The Batman will cause a series of spin-off films for their villains. maybe bolstered by the billion-dollar success of Joker, DC wants to build a connected Bat-verse around the world of Matt Reeves’ Gotham City. Recently, the director announced that Alfred would be played by Andy Serkis, and John Turturro will play mobster Carmine Falcone. (This lends credence to The Batman motion picture leaks that suggest this will be an adaptation of “The long Halloween.)

Months ago, a rumor circulated thanks to Kevin Smith’s Fatman on Batman (now Fatman Beyond) podcast. They suggested the film would take place entirely in Arkham Asylum. The unnamed WB insider who spoke with variety dismissed that rumor. but they did confirm that a portion of the film will take place there. While this comes as no surprise to spoiler-hounds, what the person said next is interesting. They said that if “the motion picture works,” both DC and Warner Bros. hopes to develop spin-off films for the villains in The Batman. Whether or not Robert Pattison’s dark knight detective will appear in those is not mentioned. The report notes that “key characters” in both this and Birds of Prey are subscribed for a lot more movies.

Warner Bros.’ last foray into a connected universe of DC comics heroes failed to land. given the success of wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Shazam!, thinking in Hollywood was that they would focus on individual stories. Yet, with talent like Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin, it seems a new connected universe may be on the way. and let’s not forget Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman! These characters all appeared in previous Batman media. Thus, it’s not seen that crucial to give them “origin” films or standalone face-offs with Batman. Yet, if The Batman is the hit they hope it will be, spin-off films from DC telling individual stories about these villains seems like a safe bet.

Yet, one has to wonder if DC isn’t headed for the same problem on the film side as they were when the “Crisis On limitless Earths” comic event first happened. With out-of-control continuity and multiple “Earths” to deal with, DC storytellers wanted to consolidate their storylines. considering that Gal Gadot’s wonder woman and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman are vestiges of the old DCEU, it seems tough for them to ever intersect with Pattison’s Batman. With the Arrowverse already doing the live-action adaptation of that story, it’s not even something the films could replicate to fix it. but maybe they don’t care. If it works and sells tickets, the inconsistencies are something the fans just have to deal with.

What do you think? would you like to see DC and Warner Bros. develop a slate of spin-off films for The Batman villains? Do you think an MCU-like universe of DC characters is still possible? Share your thoughts, theories, and hopes for the future in the comments below.
